Please do let us know what you think. We always appreciate all your feedback.
Happy 2014 to you!
I can’t believe we are heading towards the end of January already.
It’s always nice to look back at the year just gone by before moving on with the next…..and how fast they seem to be passing by these days!
Last year was a busy year for me. Looking back, I worked too many evenings, but on the flip side it did mean I was able to spend time in the day with my little girl.
My aim for 2013 was to design and launch some new contemporary baby knitting patterns for everyday wear.
I designed a new contemporary picture knits collection for babies and children called Little Pickle Knits.
I was so pleased that Love Knitting for Baby asked if they could feature my Mr Fox and 'Little Robins' baby hats in this December's 'Best Buys' feature. Here is the feature!
I would like to thank Paula Norman (Oxfordshire photographer) www.paulanormanphotography.com for these lovely photographs of my picture knits.
I also have a new collection of pretty tweedy knits for girls called Jessica Rose Hand knits.
So where can we find these new collections I hear you say……...
You may have noticed there hasn’t been much activity on rocketknits.com for a while. There is a very good reason for this…… I developed this website myself using an off the shelf website package….. but by the autumn I had filled it to its maximum capacity. I was planning on it being a short term website but not quite as short as it has turned out to be!
But….... a fab new website is due to be launched at the end of this month. I am so excited about it….. I’ll keep you posted.
In April my friend Karen left rocketknits as she needed to spend more time with her family. Karen joined me to take control of marketing rocketknits. Lots of tears were shed by both of us when she left as we had so much fun working together and had so many dreams for the business….. but our families always come first.
The next two or three months were tough, as I missed sharing rocketknits with Karen. I launched myself into creating designs for Jessica Rose Hand knits and Little Pickle Knits and the creative process helped. I always find getting creative is a good tonic.
I launched these new collections on Etsy in May and September.
In November…. Susannah, another good friend, who works in marketing, decided to join me part-time. Susannah has great ideas and has already had a major influence in the direction of the company going forward. We are so looking forward to our journey together. It looks like its going to be exciting!
The first major change that is happening is that the new website will be called www.lindawhaley.co.uk instead of rocketknits.com, as it will be housing all my knitting pattern collections. We’ll let you know as soon as it is launched.
I would like to thank Jules Mosley www.jamphotography.info for the absolutely adorable photographs she took for this January’s feature.
I’ll post a few of the photographs over the next few days but here is a sneak preview.
The magazine is out on the 29th of this month.
So onto this coming year…..2014! Plans hopes and dreams
Launch the new website ~ add more tips and knitting advice ~ include more offers and competitions ~ give a small amount of time each week for social networking as I’m not quite there yet ~ blog more frequently ~ create new to designs ~ and if I have time, launch a new homeware collection
Set up more creative projects with my children as they love it so much ~ take lots of days out with my little girl before she starts school ~ try to keep off wheat and sugar...currently on day 6 ~ keep working on that work/home balance ~ have more success with the vegetable garden this year ~ switch off from work at the weekends.
Thats my news for now.
I hope you all have a wonderful 2014

It's always so exciting when I see my designs in action! I have just been sent this very very cute photograph of Joseph wearing my classic pixie beanie hat...... how adorable is he!
I knitted this hat and sold it at a summer fair here in Oxfordshire 4 years ago. Since then the family have moved to a house very close by, have now become good family friends, and Joseph is 5 and at school with my little boy.
The first time I visited the house, I saw this photograph on the wall and said...... hey I recognise that hat!
Emma tells me this hat was her absolute favourite hat.... which is so great to hear.
I am just about to knit a hat for Emma's little girl..... so you may see another treasured family photograph appearing in my blog in the not too distant future
Autumn is here and its time for those knitting needles to re-emerge for your exciting autumn projects!
I have been busy designing contemporary picture knits throughout the summer to launch this autumn.
As my kids so love anything with a picture on it I just couldn't resist setting up a new contemporary picture knits label. There has been such excitement in our house as the kids have so loved watching these knits emerge from my initial sketches. ....its been so much fun! I have had heaps of requests from them both for this winter.
Here are the first of many animal picture knits... heaps more designs are on their way over the next few days and weeks.
More hat shapes, scarves, mittens, sweaters and cardigans coming soon! .... I'll keep you posted.
So where can I find these picture knits I here you ask.....I have launched a new label especially for my picture knits called little pickle knits. This collection of contemporary picture knits is available through my etsy shop
As a SPECIAL INTRODUCTORY OFFER .......
If you buy a little pickle pdf pattern and you can choose a complimentary pattern of your choice. Just contact me through my etsy shop to let me know which additional complimentary pattern you would like and I will email it to you.
A rainy day here in Oxfordshire.
I have a quiet moment as the kids are out with their daddy....... so I thought I would show you rocketknits most recent press coverage.
Love Knitting for Baby contacted me as they wanted to feature my baby knitting patterns in their 'Best Buys' feature.... and here it is!
Love Knitting Magazine selected two of my very popular knitting patterns...... my mini stripe baby cardigan and my classic pixie beanie pdf patterns.
These are available to buy in my patterns/baby garments and patterns/boy hats
I'm starting to feel like autumn is around the corner. There has been a chill in the air..... autumn fashion is starting to appear in the shops..... and I actually saw some children kicking around in fallen leaves today on the green outside my house...... but it's only August!! We still have some summer days out planned with the children this holiday so I am hoping autumn is not here just yet.
Anyway my latest news......
I always love reading your emails and will always try to help whenever I can, so..... as I have had quite a few requests for this...... I have decided to run some hand knit workshops this Autumn.
These initial workshops are designed to help you as you work through my rocketknit's patterns.
If you are new to knitting and have said you would like help from start to finish, you can book into my knitting workshops at intervals along the way. If you just need help at the final stages of your knit, to pick up stitches to achieve a beautiful neckline.... or to find out how to sew up an invisible seam, then just come along to a workshop with your knitting and I will help you achieve it.
So come and join me here in Witney Oxfordshire and knit some cosy knits for this autumn....or hand knit a special handmade Christmas present for someone special.
I live in this very old Georgian house which was built in the 1700's for a family that ran one of the famous 'Witney Blankets' factories. Sadly Witney Blankets is no longer operating, but running my small textile business and knitting workshops from this historic house feels right and connects me with its past in some small way.
So all you need to do is buy a rocketknits pdf pattern and book into one or more workshops. Come along with your yarn, needles..... and knitted pieces if you would like help with sewing up etc..... and I will help you with your rocket hand knit here in my workroom. Your place is reserved once you have paid. These workshops are open to you all so book early to avoid disappointment as there is a maximum of 6 people per workshop.
I am holding evening workshops most Tuesdays 8pm - 10pm. Weekend workshops are held on the first Saturday of the month 10.30am - 12.30pm. I have decided to hold these workshops at a special introductory price of £8.00 per workshop to say thank you for being a rocketknits customer, and to help you to create a handknit that you love.
Take a look at my workshops page for dates and to book your place.
Hope you've been enjoying the summer
Hi….busy here in Oxfordshire enjoying the summer holidays with my children.
…… although I'm taking some treasured time out during the day I am designing and knitting most evenings ..... so do look out for some new knitting patterns this Autumn.
But for now I just had to share some images of Cogges Farm here in Oxfordshire. It is a very special charity run farm that is perfect for a family day out, set in beautiful surroundings, as you will see from the photographs.
…. I am looking forward to using these beautiful Cotswold stone walls as a back drop for my knits!!
Here I am trying to get a photograph with my kids.....who never stand still!
Cogges Farm is in Witney Oxfordshire…and we think it is pretty special. It’s a beautiful, and exceptionally friendly charity run farm. There are a few animals including chickens, goats, geese, pigs and a lovely Shetland pony called Ali. It is so lovely that quite a few of the chickens are free to wander around the grounds. The kids love it! I have always wanted to paint chickens and cockerals ..... maybe when the kids are older! This is the new wooden play area for little ones that is perfectly placed next to the café…..Lots of outside seating and yes…… it has nice coffee! A nice relaxing lunch or coffee break whilst the kids play! There is also a new wooden adventure play area at the back of the grounds for older children. Large wooden climbing structures, a zip wire, suspended bridge etc and a natural wooded area with trees to climb and clamber on and dens to hide in. There is also a lovely peaceful apple orchard to picnic in, and a pretty walled kitchen garden to wander into. This is the walled Kitchen garden… PS the veggies are to the left……I love the stone wall and Holly Hocks….beautiful hey! There is so much history here…..the Manor House dates back from the 13th century Pretty Lavender borders in the kitchen garden Looking into the kitchen garden We love it!

As my classic summer cotton mini stripe cardigan is proving to be a 'must have' this summer...... I have decided to team this cardigan up with some other popular pdf patterns so you can purchase them at a reduced price.
An ideal opportunity for you to create some great co-ordinating knits in DK (Double knit) yarn.
I also have a new multibuy bundle especially for my newborn photography customers. A selection of blankets, wraps and cocoons. Handknit these very quick and simple designs for a great selection of photo props.
Might be interested??.....Go to my offers pattern shop to check out the bundles.
Here are my two latest pdf pattern releases - two newborn photography prop cocoons. Both are very quick to make and are knitted on pair of straight needles.
NOTE: These cocoons are to be used as photography props only. Please do not leave a baby unattended in these cocoons
Available to buy from my photography props pattern shop.
We hope we won't need them ....but yes we do!
Here in the UK we daren't step out without taking that little cotton cardigan or sweater with us.....and that's on a good day!
....So I thought I would tempt you with some classic summer striped baby knits for those very cute 'little people' in your life. These simple striped knits are easy and quick to knit.
These classic designs have been very popular in so many colours.....here is just a splattering of the colours that I have sold into baby shops in the past. Indigo dyed cotton has always been a favourite of mine.
All these hand knits are knitted with DK Double Knit (US light worsted) cotton on a pair of 4mm (US#6) straight needles.
These pdf knitting patterns have instructions for the following sizes:
newborn, 4-8 months, 8-12 months and 1-2 years
Go to my baby garments pattern shop for more information on all four designs......you could be knitting one tonight!
.... Just a little note to let you know that I have just released the pdf knitting pattern for my 'flash stripe' baby crew. This little cotton handknit is the perfect sweater for those summer days that are not quite as warm as we would like...... here in the UK we have quite a few of those "not so warm" days! I always have a little cotton cardigan or sweater with me for my children whenever we go out.
This little baby boy sweater can be knitted in any DK Double Knit (US equivalent worsted) cotton, wool or mixed fibre yarn. The sweater shown here in my blog, and those shown in my rocketknits garments shop are all knitted in DK cotton.
I have sold heaps of these flash stripe baby handknits in many colours. They are so so popular!
This design also looks great in other colours. Choose to knit it in shades of blue, or if you like fun brights it looks great in bright primary colours. If you prefer boyish browns and khaki greens, brighten it up with a bright red or orange flash stripe across the chest.
This blue colourway that I have shown here, is handknitted in three shades of indigo dyed denim DK cotton.
Do look in my garments shop for more photographs of this baby sweater pdf.

.....I just had to show you this beautiful newborn photograph of my 'pretty pompom' design that the super talented newborn photographer Kate Hopewell-Smith just sent me this morning.
I wanted to create a beautiful Christmas baby hat so I mixed a grey and cream textured slub wool with a red eyelash yarn to create my own unusual mixed yarn.
If you can't find the wool you like .......have fun creating your own wonderful unique mix. Just make sure your final mix of yarns comes to the same thickness as the wool recommended in your knitting pattern, and knit a tension square to make sure your tension is the same as stated in your knitting patterns.

They have been using my knits as photo props for their newborn photography shoots.....aren't the photos beautiful! I will keep posting all additional gorgeous newborn photos as soon as I receive them.
PS.....If you are a newborn photographer and want me to show your work to my customers, I am always very happy....and very very excited to receive beautiful newborn photographs of my knits in action! I always include a link to your website to help promote your photography business.
Thanks for popping by and I look forward to seeing you again soon
